Hydrogen sulfide biological scrubbers

Biological hydrogen sulfide scrubber

Biogas from palm effluent and similar wastes often carries hydrogen sulfide at thousands of parts per million. A biological scrubber removes it without a chemical absorbent. Sulfur-oxidising bacteria take up the sulfide and produce elemental sulfur and sulfuric acid. The reference design is a tank. Biogas with up to 10,000 ppm hydrogen sulfide enters. Gas leaving is in the range of 0 to 200 ppm, often below 100 ppm, depending on how the unit is configured. It needs water and a small flow of air.

The scrubber sits before a biogas genset, boilers, or biomethane upgrading. Named reference sites from the old brochure are not listed here.
