Biomass and biogas steam boilers

Industrial steam boiler

A steam boiler on these sites is fired on solid biomass or on biogas. It raises steam for process heat. Where a turbine is fitted, the same steam drives a synchronous generator.

That generator is rotating plant. It stays in step with the system frequency and carries a portion of the site's steady electrical load. Inverter-based solar does not do that job. The boiler and turbine are the synchronous share of the baseload. The solar array and battery cover the variable share and the loads that can move with the sun.

The fuel is the same material the rest of the plant already handles: residues, energy crops, or biogas from a digester. Biogas burned in a genset is a different machine: the gas goes into an engine, not into a boiler. The boiler does not replace the digester, the genset, the upgrading train, or the solar supply. It sits beside them.
