Renewable diesel

Renewable diesel, including hydrotreated vegetable oil and Fischer–Tropsch diesel, is a paraffinic fuel that can be used in existing diesel engines. It is not FAME biodiesel, which is a different molecule, with different storage behaviour and a different excise treatment in Australia.
The fuel-security and cleaner-fuels notes on this desk argue that a mandate without a bankable price does not build a plant. This page is the process, not that argument. No operating renewable-diesel reference is published here.
See sustainable aviation fuel, which shares several of the same synthesis routes, and solar PV and battery storage where the plant carries its own power supply.
