Green methanol

Green methanol distillation columns

Green methanol here means methanol whose carbon and energy inputs are renewable: biomethanol from biogenic gas, or e-methanol from renewable hydrogen and captured carbon dioxide, including a pathway aimed at RFNBO rules. It is a liquid fuel and a chemical feedstock, not a drop-in for the natural-gas grid.

Shipping and aviation mandates have pulled project proposals forward faster than offtake prices have. The briefings on this desk argue that point with figures. The Malaysia note describes a proposed plant, not an operating one.

See the Malaysia case study, the pricing briefing, the China rebate note, solar PV and battery storage where the plant carries its own power supply, and high-voltage site distribution for the 132 kV network on that plant.
